It looks as though the smooth off-season has found some turbulence. The news broke yesterday that Regie Meant, a junior defensive tackle, would be leaving the team indefinitely. Coach Stoops cited “personal reasons” for why this has happened and urged everyone to “respect that and leave it alone”. This is a huge blow in a position where Kentucky could least afford to lose anyone. Regie had 30 total tackles last season and one sack against Florida. This leaves Adrian Middleton to step up into the starting role for the Cats this fall. Also leaving the program will be Darryl Long. Long is a sophomore tight end and is looking for more playing time. This leaves CJ Conrad, Greg Hart, and Justin Rigg as our tight ends on the squad. I expect Conrad to get the bulk of the work out of the three of course, but, I thought we would have more multiple tight end formations this year than in previous years and now I don’t see that happening. Overall I get why Long wanted to leave and wish him the best! Whatever is going on with Regie I hope gets resolved and we see him return to the team, both will be missed!
