The Class of 2019 is filled with great talent, especially at the point guard position, with four of the top 15 overall players in the class listed as point guards. The #1 point guard in the class, according to 247Sports Composite Ratings, is 6’1” Cole Anthony from Archbishop Molloy HS in New York City. Cole Anthony is rated a five star prospect (.9959 Composite Rating) and is the #5 overall player in the class, according to 247Sports. Right behind Anthony is 6’4” Ashton Hagans of Newton HS in Covington, Georgia. Hagans is rated a five star (.9916 Composite Rating). He is listed as the #9 overall player in the class and the #2 point guard. University of Kentucky head coach John Calipari has not offered Cole Anthony and the interest in him is seemingly cool. While Coach Cal has not offered Ashton Hagans yet, the interest in him has apparently risen.
Hagans has recently visited Auburn, Georgia and Georgia Tech, with plans to visit Virginia Tech in the near future. According to an interview with Hagans by Rivals.com, “I’ve been getting a lot of mail from them for a while now telling me they are interested, but I haven’t talked to them myself yet about getting an offer.” It is well known that Coach Cal likes tall point guards, particularly ones with great ball skills and the ability to score, as well as facilitate the dribble-drive offense (see Wall, John and Teague, Marquis). Hagans has height (6’3”), scoring ability (averaged 8.7 points a backup his sophomore year) and can pass the ball well (averaged 3.3 assists as a backup). While he does not have a UK offer yet, his 247Sports Crystal Ball is 75% Kentucky and an offer is expected soon.
