SEC Power Rankings

Going into our first week of SEC play for UK, it is good to know where we stand based on everyone’s play at the moment. It goes as follows:

.) Alabama (2-0) – This should come as a surprise to no one as the Crimson Tide look to win yet another title under Nick Saban

.) Auburn (1-1) – Even after dropping an early loss, Auburn is very impressive after putting up a great performance against the defending champs Clemson.

.) LSU (2-0) – This is an LSU team that is only put here based on the weapons and coach at the helm. LSU hasn’t had a true test yet, but every game that they have played so far it has been a complete blow out. So, until then the tigers are here.

.) UGA (2-0) – The Bulldogs have had an absolute amazing start to their season with a win on the road against Notre Dame. I look to see LSU and UGA battle it out for that third spot throughout the season.

.) Tennessee (2-0) – Tennessee to me deserves the fifth spot over South Carolina because they played a very tough Georgia Tech team and managed to pull it out, and that was their very first game, they had no easy game to get them started. It was very impressive for me to see them do that, to dig down when it did not always go their way.

.) South Carolina (2-0) – South Carolina to me is impressive, but, I do see that it could very much be hype. By hype I do not mean that they are not a very much improved team but not to the degree that some people say. They struggled against a average N.C. State team and then yes, they did easily handle a Mizzou team but if you think about it, at this period for Mizzou, very few teams don’t do that. I look to see their first test to be against UK this weekend.

.) Florida (0-1) – The decision to put the Gators here instead of Arkansas compared to many others may surprise some but it shouldn’t if you look at the schedules. The beating that Arkansas took against TCU did it for as far as their success for the season, and what made it worse is it was at home. Florida had a tough battle against Michigan, but still look for them to finish very strong in the East.

.) Arkansas (1-1) – Arkansas has a lot to prove after dropping one to TCU at home, and bad at that. They will get a chance to get themselves together through a bye week and take a shot at Texas A&M on the road. It will be a true chance for redemption.

.) Mississippi St. (2-0) – After starting the season off strong with two large victories, even though they were against subpar teams, they still were victories. They have their first test this week against LSU in Starkville which will have to help them. It will be a very interesting game to see if Mississippi St. can pull of the upset.

.) Kentucky (2-0) – After two closer than what most would like victories against very subpar teams everyone is looking at this Kentucky team wondering what is going on. Most believe it is due to the many O-Line shake ups so close to the season starting. They will get a chance to prove that they are a improved team against a very good South Carolina team this Saturday.

.) Texas A&M (1-1) – You have to wonder, what is going on down in Texas? After blowing an enormous lead against UCLA and then barely pulling it out against Nicholls, yes, you’re right, you don’t know who that is. It was a bad sign for Aggie fans after what looked like was going to be a great start.

.) Ole Miss (2-0) – The turmoil in Mississippi is translating to the football field as well. Last weekend it looked to be a very rough start against a Tennessee Martin team. But, in the 3rd quarter scored 21 unanswered points to propel themselves to the W. They now have a competition coming up this weekend on the road against California.

.) Vanderbilt (2-0) – So far Vandy has handled their early games very well and have their first semi test this weekend against Kansas St. It will be their first real football squad that they have played this year.

.) Missouri (1-1) – Well, there is not much positive to say about Mizzou. What looked like a powerhouse offense in their first game with their quarterback throwing over 500 yards and 7 touchdowns, but, then everyone realized who they were playing when this happened. Against South Carolina Drew Lock was not nearly as impressive, only throwing one touchdown. The defense for Mizzou was awful against the first team they played after allowing 43 points to a Missouri Valley conference team. Mizzou has some major questions to answer this season.
