UK hockey opens the season with a big win

Last night Kentucky started the season off in front of a packed, and loud, Lexington Ice Center crowd. The team delievered a big 8-1 win over Middle Tennessee State to start the season off strong.

The team started off fast, forechecking MTSU all night long and keeping the puck for a majority of the game. Every loose puck seemed as if Kentucky got. The blue line played great, keeping back, and not letting MTSU get behind them very often. Jeffery Ison started in net and played great, cutting off shooting angles, stopping a couple of break always, and not giving MTSU any open net to shoot at.

The first period had a big offensive showing with freshman Jordan Shannon getting a hat trick, including two of those goals coming with UK being short handed. Beck Shultz picked up where he left off last year with a hat trick of his own. Zachary Chamryk and Nic Quammen each added a goal, respectively.

The second game of the Middle Tennessee State series is tonight and midnight. Come out to the Lexington Ice Center and be loud!
