UK Hockey player profile: Meet Cory Day

Cory Day is a redshirt senior forward on the University of Kentucky Hockey Club and is from Fort Wayne, IN. Cory was gracious in being the first player to do a player profile with UK Fans All Day. So with out any further delay, here is Cory Day.

1. What first caught your eye about hockey and made you want to play?

CD: My older brother was the one who really got me into wanting to play. It started with just playing hockey in the garage at my house when I was real young to then transitioning to learning to skate at age 3. I started playing competitively very shortly after.

2. Who is your favorite team and player?

CD: My favorite team is the Chicago Blackhawks, and my favorite player is Jonathan Toews. I like to model my game after him and lead by example just like he does.

3. Would you rather score goal, hit a pretty pass to a teammate for a goal, or rock an opposing player with a big hit?

CD: Without a doubt scoring a goal. There is no better feeling then scoring a goal in front of big crowd.

4. What music do you like to listen to before a game?

CD:  Typically I just listen to what is playing in the locker room before the game. We listen to a lot of rap music and like to keep the mood fairly light before the games.

5. If you were not playing hockey, what sport would you play?

CD:  If I wasn’t playing hockey I would be playing baseball. I played baseball every summer as a kid until high school when I decided to give it up just to focus on playing hockey.

6. What do you like to do in your free time?

CD:  In my free time I like to hang out with the boys, catch up on sleep, and spend time with my girlfriend and our dog.
7. Where do you see yourself in five years?

CD:  In five years I see myself still involved with hockey in someway. Whether it’s as an executive, a coach, a scout, etc. I want to work in hockey.

8. What is your favorite thing about Lexington?

CD: My favorite thing about Lexington would have to be UK. I’ve had so many great memories here over the past few years.

9. What would you like to say to the Big Blue Nation?

CD: I like to give a big shoutout to all the fans that continually come out and support us at our home games and that if you’ve never been to a hockey game at UK you definitely need to get to one this year.

I want to take this time to thank Cory for taking the time to do this. And a big thank you to the UK Hockey Club and everyone envolved with the program and media relations for allowing us at the site amazing access to the team!

The Wildcats will be back on the ice again Friday night when rival Louisville comes to the Lexington Ice Center. Puck drop is at midnight and admission is $7. Come early, be loud, and wear blue!!
