Football: Ranking the SEC Games for Week Five

It seems like the season started yesterday but we’re already in week five. Like last week, I will only be ranking the SEC vs SEC matchups but we make exceptions for Kentucky because this is a Kentucky based site. The rest of the non SEC vs SEC games will not be on this list so Troy at (25) LSU and New Mexico State at Arkansas will be excluded. This week in the SEC includes five all SEC games. Here’s my rankings!

6. Eastern Michigan at Kentucky

What did you expect? I love my Cats but at least I was nice enough to put this game on the list right? Kentucky is coming off of a heartbreaking loss to Florida and will be looking to put the loss behind them. There should be a sense of urgency from the Cats to erase last week and I think this leads to a route. Of course there’s excitement for the BBN to watch their Cats like I am but most people wouldn’t consider this game too exciting.

5. Ole Miss at (1) Alabama

The tide are coming off of a DOMINANT win vs Vanderbilt and I see no slowing down here. Ole Miss didn’t show up when they finally had some real competition and I see this week being no different. I believe this is the best offense Alabama has played this season so it may be first in the first quarter but overall, this game shouldn’t be an issue. Tide roll and Ole Miss folds. Bama wins big.

4. South Carolina at Texas A&M

This game just feels wierd. Texas A&M hasn’t exactly been too good as they blew a huge lead to UCLA, struggled against Nicholls and Louisiana-Lafayette, and beat Arkansas in overtime. While the overtime win against Arkansas is nice, I think it says more about Arkansas than A&M as I believe the Hogs are falling fast. South Carolina on the other hand was considered a possible east sleeper after the first two games but hasn’t looked the same in the previous two games. I think this game will be close but it just isn’t that appealing to me.

3. Vanderbilt at (21) Florida

I still don’t know what to think of Florida. They were outplayed by Tennessee and Kentucky but won both and then got dominated by Michigan. There’s a good argument that the Gators should be 0-3 but instead they’re 2-1. Vanderbilt on the other hand got crushed against Bama last week but that’s how it is for most teams. Over the years this series has been close in terms of score and I think it will be that way again. Another confusing game in my opinion.

2. (7) Georgia at Tennessee

Georgia is flat out a lot better than Tennessee. I rank this game high on the list because the Vols have found a way to keep this game close recently. Georgia has looked like one of the best teams in the country and they haven’t even had their starting quarterback. Tennesse on the other hand has looked shaky over the past two weeks after handing Florida a win and having a tough time against UMass. Because Tennessee always somehow finds a way to keep games close, I think this game goes down to the wire.

1. (24) Mississippi State at (15) Auburn

For the third consecutive week, Mississippi State is involved in my best game of the week. This game between between the Tigers and Bulldogs will most likely decide who the second best team in the west is. Mississippi State looked like a force against LSU and then couldn’t even get in the end zone vs Georgia. Auburn on the other hand looked good keeping the Clemson game close and then threw up a clunker against Mercer. I think Nick Fitzgerald and Mississippi State offense vs the Auburn defense will be the most important matchup in the game. This game should be a close one.
