This week’s player profile is Eric Williams. Eric is a Sophomore goalie on the University of Kentucky Hockey Club and is from Arlington, Texas. Eric was kind enough to to be this week’s player profile. This is Eric Williams…
1. What first caught your attention about hockey and made you want to play?
EW: I always tell people that I was born into playing hockey. My parents were Dallas Stars season ticket holders when I was born and kept them until I was five. It was almost natural that I started skating when I was three and playing hockey when I was four.
2. Who is your favorite team and player?
EW: My favorite team is the Washington Capitals, with my favorite current player being Braden Holtby. My favorite player of all time being Dominic Hasek: It is why I wear #39.
3. What is your favorite moment in hockey so far?
EW: My favorite moment thus far in my career was making it to regional camp and state team. They only take the top three goalies out of fifteen that tried out. Being in the top three for my state was a special moment.
EW: Before I play, I listen to a little bit of everything. I’ll start with some classic rock and as game time gets closer it will be mostly hip hop with some heavy metal and a mixed in EDM song. About 15 minutes before the game I turn on a playlist with four songs out of superstition.
5. If you were not playing hockey, what sport would you play?
EW: If I wasn’t playing hockey there would be a variety of different sports that I might be playing. I lettered in football along with lacrosse in high school, while playing baseball growing up. It probably would end up being lacrosse as I was a pretty good goalie in lacrosse as well.
6. What do you like to do in your free time?
EW: I love going to football and basketball games at UK and go as much as possible, but when that is not an option I will hang out with the boys or fishing at a lake.
EW: In five years I hope to have my MBA and working full time. I’m a business management major and hope to be able to get in the front office side of hockey and maybe coaching youth hockey.
8. What is your favorite thing about Lexington?
EW: My favorite part of Lexington is the small town feel with the amenities of a city. From the moment I visited UK it felt like a small town community with everyone being so friendly. I also love to go out to the country because of how beautiful it is here.
9. What would you like to say to the Big Blue Nation?
EW: The one thing I want to say to the BBN is thank you. Thank you for supporting UK hockey throughout the good times and the bad. The BBN really is the best fans in college sports.
