UK Hockey player profile: Nic Quammen

This week’s player profile is Nic Quammen. Nic is a junior forward from Lexington, Ky. This is Nic:

1. What first caught your attention about hockey and made you want to play?

NQ: I became interested in hockey when I was around 2 or 3 years old. I would watch my neighbors and their friends play in the court in front of my house. Once I was 4 or 5 one of the moms would periodically make them stop the game so I could play some too. That’s what really got me interested in hockey.

2. Who is your favorite team and player?

NQ: My favorite team is the Anaheim Ducks, since I grew up watching the Mighty Ducks movies. My favorite player is Steven Stamkos.

3. What has been your favorite moment in hockey to this point?

NQ: My favorite moment in hockey so far was making it to Nationals in 2013. Even though our team didn’t do too well, it was a great experience.

4. Do you have an superstitions or pre-game rituals?

NQ:  I don’t really have any superstitions, but on the nights of home games I do have kind of a routine that I go through to mentally and physically prepare for the game.

5. If you were not playing hockey, what sport would you be playing?

NQ:  I played baseball all the way until I got to college so I would probably still be playing that in some form.

6. What do you like to do in your free time?

NQ: With hockey and school I don’t really have a ton of free time so I mostly just find some way to relax when I’m actually able to find time.

7.  Where do you see yourself in five years?

NQ: In 5 years I hope to be still be involved in hockey somehow, whether that’s as a coach, scout, player, or whatever is available. I just love the game and hope that I can make a career out of it and stay around it for the rest of my life.

8. What is your favorite thing about Lexington?

NQ: Since I’ve grown up in Lexington I’d have to say my favorite thing is UK sports. It’s great seeing how passionate everyone is about all of the sports at the university, they really bring the community together.

9. What would you like to say to the Big Blue Nation?

NQ: I’d like to say that we really appreciate the support that we get from our fans. It’s awesome to be able to come out to a packed house and hear the fans cheering for us at home games.
