This week’s University of Kentucky Hockey Club’s player profile is goalie Francis Eble. Eble is a senior on the club and is from Lexington, Ky. Francis is also coming off a shut out of Xavier this past Saturday night, which was UK’s first shut out in two years. Big tip of the hat to him him in net, and the team for playing great defense in front of him.
1. What first caught your attention about hockey and made you want to play?
FE: The first thing that caught my eye about hockey were the goalie masks and pads. I loved seeing these masked men literally dictate the outcome of games by making huge saves. That is what made me want to play.
2. Who is your favorite player and team?
FE: My favorite player is Martin Jones of the San Jose Sharks. My favorite team is the Colorado Avalanche.
3. Do you have any pregame rituals?
FE: My pads, helmet, stick and chesty are all Bauer. My glove and blocker are Brian’s .
5. If you were not playing hockey what sport would you be playing?
FE: Disc golf. It’s become a hobby of mine and I like to think that I’m not bad. It’s also a good excuse to hang out with my buds and let Chew (my dog) chase squirrels.
6. It has been said goalies are wired different from other players. Do you believe this?
FE: Yes. Most people usually don’t like getting hard rubber shot at them with a horn/light behind them reminding them every time they mess up. Us goalies are definitely a breed of our own.
7. Where do you see yourself in five years?
FE: In 5 years I see myself working with Lexington Parks and Recreations as a recreational therapist.
8. What is your favorite thing about Lexington?
FE: The Bluegrass Baking Company. It is by far the best bakery in town. There is nothing that they make that isn’t delicious.
9. What would you like to say to the Big Blue Nation?
FE: I would like to say thank you for all the support the BBN has shown us this year. The BBN is the reason that playing for UK is so special, and playing against UK is such a headache.
I want to thank Francis for taking the time to do this. The whole team has been nothing but great this year to us here at the site, and we are thankful for them.
You can catch the University of Kentucky Hockey Club at home this Friday, October the 27th, against the Cincinnati Bearcats. The game will be at the Lexington Ice Center at midnight and it’s $7 to get in to the game. Come early and be loud.
