Whenever Kevin Knox first committed to the University of Kentucky, for the many of us including myself it was a huge surprise. Nobody really thought that Knox would be a Wildcat. With many of us thinking that he was headed towards the state of North Carolina, and would end up as either a Tar Heel or a Blue Devil. But during this past years Kentucky Derby the Tampa, Florida resident shocked the college basketball world when he took to Twitter to announce his decision.
Knox, the six foot eight inch athletic freak from Tampa, Florida was an absolute monster during his senior year at Tampa Catholic High School. Where he put up just insane averages of 28.9 points, 10.9 rebounds, 2.4 assists, 1.8 steals and 1.9 blocks a game. It’s easy to see why he caught the eye of recruiting guru John Calipari.
Through the first two exhibition games I think that its pretty clearly that Kevin Knox will be the best player on this young Wildcats squad. He has put up impressive numbers thus far, scoring a combined forty-three points through two exhibition games.
But the scariest thing about Knox is probably the young mans athleticism, he’s not the best shooter in the world. But with his big body and ability to jump out the gym, its safe to say that he can and will get the rim and score at will as if he were a young Len Bias.
Knox is currently projected by many publications to be drafted with the 15th overall pick in the 2018 draft. But knowing how the Cal system works, and knowing how much faith NBA teams have faith in Kentucky players nowadays. I think its safe to say that we will see him rise up the draft board in the months to come.
With the season not even officially starting yet and the Wildcats still being 0-0 we still have a long way to go before Selection Sunday or the NBA draft. But with the Cats being lead behind Knox and his freakish athleticism, we should just all sit back and enjoy the ride. Because I think we might have just hit a goldmine with this 6’8 fun versatile forward.
