RJ Barrett has committed to Duke. Despite some late rumblings that they may be in third place for his services, he chose to play college ball for Coach K. With his commitment, Duke continues their recruiting hot streak by landing the #1 HS senior in the nation. Jeff Capel seemingly must have sealed the deal on November 1st when he visited Barrett at 4:45 am.
Barrett is a 6’6” small forward from Mississauga, Ontario. He selected Duke over Kentucky and Oregon. Barrett single handedly ended Calipari’s stint as the U19 coach this season by dropping 40 on Team USA and now will be as an opponent once again.
Many Kentucky fans hoped that he’d pull a Kevin Knox or Jamal Murray scenario (where another school was favored and Kentucky won) but he ultimately didn’t. Not this time.
Kentucky will be just fine. As long as they have Immanuel Quickley recruiting in guys, we’ll be okay. Kentucky is still on the board for many top-ranked targets. Keldon Johnson a heavy Kentucky lean for quite sometime is expected to picks the Cats on Saturday at 6pm.
