University of Kentucky coach Mark Stoops announced today that senior offensive lineman Nick Haynes has left the team after an agreed upon “mutual separation”. The senior had a tumultuous senior year, from his significant diabetes-related weight loss to his ill-advised tweet about UK’s coaches. Haynes has not played a snap since the first half of the Missouri game.
After his weight loss, which totaled 40 pounds, Haynes moved from guard to center. After a lackluster performance there, he lost that job to redshirt freshman Drake Jackson. Prior to the Louisville game, Haynes sent out a tweet that said:
“Most of these coaches don’t care about us personally,” the tweet, which has now been deleted, said. “It’s all about that check. That’s one thing I’ve observed here at UK. They’ll use up all your worth and then throw you to the side.”
This led to a one on one discussion with Coach Stoops, who expressed his displeasure.Whether Haynes travels with the team to Nashville for the Music City Bowl will be up to him, according to Coach Stoops.
