UK Hockey sweeps YSU

Last night the University of Kentucky Hockey Club came away with a 10-1 victory at Youngstown State, for the club’s 3rd series sweep of the season. In the two games played, Kentucky outscored YSU 21-2. The team is now 14-6-1-1 (2-0 SECHC) on the year.

Ryan Duffy got the Cats on the board first and a 1-0 lead. Kentucky would end the period up 5-0 after Jimmy Kasch, Mike DeAngelis, Vikram Dudee (1st career ACHA goal), and then Duffy (2nd of the night) added goals.

The second started where the first period left off when Ryan Duffy would net a power play goal for his third of the night, and first career ACHA hat trick. Freshman defenseman, Matt Pakkala, would give UK a 7-0 lead on his first career ACHA goal.

The third would start with Kentucky holding a 7-0 lead. Max Boss would net his second of the series for an 8-0 lead. Youngstown would finally get their one and only goal past goalie Jeffery Ison, after two plus shutout periods. Kentucky would answer back when senior Cory Day got on the board, making it 9-1. Then Jimmy Lasch would get his second of the night for a 10-1 Kentucky victory.

Congratulations to Vikram Dudee and Matt Pakkala on their first career goals. Congratulations as well to Ryan Duffy on his first career hat trick. Also of note, after this game Kentucky has two players averaging two points or more a game this season. Forwards Beck Schultz and Jordan Shannon are on a great scoring pace this year.

The Wildcats are now on a break between semesters. They will hit the ice again on Friday, January 19 against rival Eastern Kentucky in the Battle for the Bourbon Barrel Trophy. Game starts at midnight and is $7 admission.
