Some unexpected coaching news has just dropped as Lamar Thomas will no longer be Kentucky’s wide receiver coach. Thomas has been apart of the Kentucky program for two years and developed the receivers pretty well as the number in drops has fallen since he got to Lexington. Reports state that Stoops and Thomas parted ways. While we aren’t sure why at the moment, we will keep you updated if a reason is given. Thank you and good luck in your future endeavors, LT!
** UPDATE **
After speaking with a source close the program, I wanted to share some details. According to the source, Lamar Thomas approached Coach Stoops after the 2016 season, asking for an extension to his contract. Thomas reportedly told Coach Stoops that he had improved the receivers enough to deserve an extension. Coach Stoops told him that they would discuss an extension after the 2017 season was completed. That answer apparently was unacceptable to Thomas. According to the source, Coach Stoops and Lamar Thomas rarely spoke this season, when it was not required. Then, after the Lamar Jackson “lovefest” during the Louisville game, Stoops apparently decided that he was done with Thomas’ behavior. The choice was made after the Music City Bowl not to renew Thomas’ contract. Stoops expressed best wishes to Lamar Thomas in his press release.
