Jamal Murray was the 7th pick in the 2016 NBA Draft by the Denver Nuggets after his 1 year stay at The University of Kentucky. Murray averaged 20.5 Ppg in 36 games in his 1 year at Kentucky.
Murray in his 2nd season in Denver is really starting to shine. The young Arrow Shooter is turning heads in the mile high city at the Point Guard Position. Currently averaging 16.2 points 2.7 assist and 3.7 boards a night for a 2nd year guard in the NBA that is pretty heady stuff.
Not the most eye popping numbers but numbers that are on the rise. Murray has had twelve plus 25 point games this season on a team that is contending for a playoff spot in the tough Western Conference that is littered with talent all across the board.
Just a few nights ago Murray and former Wildcat, Devin Booker now Phoenix Sun hooked up in a old fashion shootout in Denver. Murray and Booker both led their respective teams in scoring posting 30 points a piece and giving the crowd plenty of EWWW and AWWW moments along the way. There was a standout moment in the game where Devin Booker pulled up from about 5 feet behind the NBA 3-point line and splashed one right over the top of Murray. Booker then pulled out an arrow of his own and shot it right at Murray on his way back down the court. Murray, moments later got his revenge on Booker, he broke the Suns defense down and got to the rim. Booker was in the wrong spot at wrong time and Murray sized him up for a rim rocking dunk and then proceeded to hit him with a nice flex of the bicep’s after the SLAM. This added to many of the Wildcat moments that we have see over the past few years in the NBA. Booker and the Suns ended up getting the win in Denver 108 to 100. Gonna be fun to watch these two go at it for many years too come.
Murray once again will be suiting up for the NBA Rising Stars game this season. In the game last season Murray went on to win the MVP award, posting a game-high 36 points (9-14 3FG) and a game-high 11 assists leading team world to a 150 to 139 over team USA. The game will be played this year on February 16th at 9 pm et on TNT. Be sure to tune in and see if Murray can repeat his performance from last year and retain his MVP trophy.
Looking back at the 2016 NBA draft, Murray was selected one spot after 2016 National player of the year Buddy Hield who went 6th to the New Orleans Pelicans. I remember telling people on draft night that should of been Murray going to the Big Blue Bayou. I just always felt like Murray’s game had more room for growth then Hield’s game. Now that we have seen them in the league for a 1 1/2 now Murray has showed people that he should of been the one drafted 1st. But whose to say Murray would of panned out in NOLA, maybe Denver was in the stars for Murray and it seems to be a perfect fit so for the Canadian Cat.
So for all you Wildcat fans out there that have yet to catch Murray play for the Nuggets here’s your chance. Next Thursday February 1st, Denver will face off against Russell Westbrook and the Thunder on TNT at 10:30 PM ET. Murray will get his chance to go toe to toe with the reigning NBA MVP. Be sure to tune in and support your former CAT.
