UK Hockey player profile: Remi Paine

This week’s University of Kentucky Hockey Club player profile is Remi Paine. Remi is a redshirt senior defenseman from Falls Church, Virginia.

1: What first caught your attention about hockey?

RP: The first thing that really caught my eye about hockey was the speed of play of the games, seeing players wiz by on a pair of skates and score these fantastic goals was amazing. Plus, any sport that allows fighting is pretty gnarly on its own.

2: Who is your favorite team and player?

RP: I’m a die hard Washington Capitals fan all my life, and my all time favorite player is Martin St Louis. That guy’s a beauty and was fun to watch. My favorite current player now is probably Tom Wilson because he’s such a goon.

3: What brand equipment do you use?

RP: I’ll use Bauer gear till the day I die, especially my skates. The only thing that I use that isn’t Bauer are my sticks, which are CCM.

4: If you can use any five players, past or present, for a shoot out who would you choose?

RP: Any players? Well I’ve gotta have Pavel Datsyuk, Alexander Barkov, and Tj Oshie because they are 3 of the best all time in shootouts. Then I’d add Patrick Kane of the Black Hawks and probably Wayne Gretzky because he’s the GOAT.

5: What do you like to do in your free time?

RP: 5) If I’m not playing hockey or studying for school I like to hangout with friends, watch movies, watch scrubs till my eyes fall out, and of course seeeeeeeeeendddd ittttt.

6: What brand or artist are you listening to the most right now?

RP: My musics kind of all over the place. I’m mainly listening to MGMT, The Killers, A Tribe Called Quest, and real into Nelly right now for some reason.

7: Where do you see yourself in five years?

RP: Hahaha hopefully graduated college at the least. But in five years I’d like to be either working for a federal law enforcement agency or working in the Peace Core, traveling around the world.

8: What is your favorite thing about Lexington?

RP: I really like the people in Lexington and the Lexington area in general. It oddly enough kind of reminds me of being back home in DC. In my five years living in Lexington people have always been so nice and helpful. I love the area because there is always something going on around Lex, whether it be Keeneland, Thursday Night Live, or visiting Distilleries, I can always find something to do.

9: What would you like to say to the Big Blue Nation?

RP: To the BBN; I can’t say thank you enough for the support you all have shown not only me, but also the UK hockey team over the past five years. Even through the rough patches. I decided to come to UK in part because of the incredible support the the BBN provides the UK hockey team, packing The Barn at midnight and always cheering the boys on is a something unique about UK fans. It has been an unforgettable experience to say the least, and a ton of fun to be able to play infront of you for the past 5 years. Thank you BBN again y’all are awesome, Remdawg out.

I want to thank Remi for doing this, and thank you to each player that has this season. You can catch the team in action at home this weekend for the last two games of the regular season. Friday will be Senior Day against Tennessee, as well as the first ever home SECHC game for UK, Saturday will be against defending SECHC champions, Georgia. But games start at midnight and are $7 to get in to. Tickets are already on sale at the teams website,, and I would suggest getting them soon before they are gone.
