Recruiting never stops, especially for Kentucky and the Kentucky Football coaching staff. The new year is already flying by and before you know it, it will be time for spring training and then soon after that we will be talking about the upcoming 2018 season. In this post I’m essentially breaking down the defensive recruiting list for the 2019 class. I’ll also be breaking it down by each position so that we can see where our strengths and weaknesses will be when that time comes.
Defensive Tackle (DT):
Kentucky, so far, has sent offers to 13 DT’s across the nation five of those being four star recruits and eight of them being three stars. Jacob Lacey of Bowling Green, Kentucky (4 Star) has verbally committed to Notre Dame, Tru Thompson of Loganville, Georgia (3 Star) has verbally committed to Florida State, and Denzel Daxon of Miami, Florida has verbally committed to the University of Miami.
Strong-Side Defensive End (SDE):
Kentucky has 20 targets at the moment for the SDE position in the upcoming class of 2019. Of those 20 there is one 5 Star recruit from Lewis Center, Ohio and seven 4 Star recruits from various other parts of the nation. Currently two of these recruits have verbally committed to other schools as of now such as Quashon Fuller from Lehigh Acres, Florida with Florida State and Jalen Thornton from Cincinnati, Ohio has verbally committed to West Virginia.
Weak-Side Defensive End (WDE):
Kentucky currently has 19 targets at the weak-side defensive end position in their sights for the class of 2019. Six of those being 4 Star recruits and a majority of the rest being 3 Star recruits. Michael Morris a 4 Star recruit from Boca Raton, Florida has verbally committed to Florida State and Cameron Williams from Hollywood, Florida has verbally committed to the University of Miami at the moment.
Outside Line Back (OLB):
For the OLB position, Kentucky has 14 offers out to various recruits at this time and three of those are 4 Star recruits and the majority of the remaining eleven are 3 Star recruits from all across the nation. Ahdarrious Gee from Crisp County, Georgia is a 3 Star and has already verbally committed to South Carolina but the remaining thirteen are undecided.
Inside Line Back (ILB):
For the ILB position, there have only been seven offers sent out as of right now. One of those being 4 Star recruit Anthony Solomon from Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. The remaining six recruits are 3 Star recruits and they are all currently undecided on which school they will be attending in 2019.
Corner Back (CB):
The University of Kentucky has their sights set on several talented corner backs for the class of 2019, nineteen at the moment with seven of those being rated as 4 Star recruits with several of the remaining being rated as 3 Star recruits at the time being. Kentucky currently has a verbal commit from Keontra Smith from a 4 Star CB from Hollywood, Florida!
Strong Safety (SS):
Finally at the Stong Safety position, the Kentucky Football staff currently has nine different offers out to various recruits across the nation with five of those being 4 Star recruits and the remaining four being 3 Star recruits. The only verbal commit out of these recruits thus far is from Te’Cory Couch from Hollywood, Florida to the University of Tennessee.
Although all of this is subject to change and more than likely it will, I love to see our coaching staff continue to stay hot on the recruiting trail to try and bring the best talent they possibly can to our University!
