CATS VS VOLS 7 Pm Et on ESPN “SUPER TUESDAY”!!!!
Kentucky Enters this one 17-6 and 6-4 in SEC Play
The Vols currently set at 17-5 and 7-3 in SEC Play
Round 1 down in Knoxville did not go as planned for the Cats, taking a 76-65 loss after leading the Vols at the half 37-29.
The Cats will hope Round 2 is a different story from the friendly confines of RUPP ARENA, and look to bounce back after the ugly loss that no one wants to remember down in Missouri on Saturday.
Some key stats and notes from the 1st meeting:
The Cats were outrebounded by the Vols 37-30, Gotta flip that script!!
Kentucky allowed Tennessee to dish out 23 assist on 25 made baskets. YIKES!
The Cats battled big time foul trouble all night committing 23 fouls to the Vols 16. Keep ya hands to yourself!!
The Free Throw Line was big, Kentucky shot 10-16 while the Vols were 18-24
Keys to the Game
1.) ENERGY-Bring the Energy early and often, this team has had spells were they just look unexcited and flat. ENERGY will be big from the get go in this one!! Come out and get this Rupp Arena Crowd rocking early and get the Vols on there heels and shaking in there shoes from the opening tip!!! A Early Rim Rocking Dunk would be great!!
2.) Get going from DOWNTOWN- The Cats are a eye popping 7 of 34 from Downtown in there last 2 games. We have the guys that are capable of catching fire in Quade, Wenyen and Kevin. Missouri basically was daring Kentucky to shoot threes on Saturday, conceding the 3 point line and packing it in and just making it tough for the guards to penetrate and get any easy looks at the rim. The inability to knock down threes is really becoming a achilles heel for this team!!
3.) Contain Grant Williams- In the 1st meeting Grant Williams had 18 Pts 8 Reb and 4 Ast in 34 minutes of Action. Williams is a no doubt 1st Team All SEC performer and the straw that stirs the Vols drink.. Contain the Beast and make somebody else beat ya!!
4.) Jarred Vanderbilt- Vanderbilt was a missing piece when the Cats took on the Vols in the 1st meeting. Saturday in Mizzou, it looked like Vanderbilt was really starting to get his legs back and feel for the game.Vanderbilt was pumped from the get go, he was yelling at refs bumpin people and playing with tons of energy and passion. It looks like he his ready to step into a bigger role for this team. He played a season high 16 minutes at Mizzou while scoring 8 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Gonna be interesting to watch and see how Cal goes about using Vanderbilt in this one!!
This is a big game for the Cats, hoping to keep there SEC regular season championship hopes alive, currently sitting 3 games back of the first place Auburn Tigers!! If the Vols find a way to get the win in Rupp. It will be the first time the Cats have been swept by the vols in the season series since 1999 “Can’t let that happen”!!!
Prediction- KENTUCKY- 74 VOLS-69!! I think the Cats come out and play with energy early and a sense of urgency and send them Vols weeping back to Rocky Top. A win over the 15th ranked Vols would look sweet on that NCAA tourney resume, and would also be a big confidence boost for this club heading into the weekend meeting with the TEXAS A&M AGGIES!!
