Women’s Basketball: Late Rally attempt falls short as Kentucky falls 83-78.

Once again the Kentucky Women’s basketball team fell behind and came back but it just was too little too late as they fell on the road at #15 Missouri to fall to 12-13 on the season and 4-7 in SEC play. The third quarter got off to a good start for Kentucky as they reeled off a mini 4-0 run before Missouri hit back with a 10-2 run to push the lead to 13 and continued their hot shooting from the first half to outscore Kentucky 18 to 10 to lead the the end of the third quarter 59-46. In the 4th quarter, Kentucky was able to go on a 8 to 2 run to close the gap 61-54 with 6:37 left in the game, but Matthew Mitchell was whistled for a technical foul at the 5:09 mark and Missouri built the lead back to 11.  Kentucky was able to cut the lead to 6 on several occasions, but couldn’t get any closer til the final seconds where they cut the deficit to 5 and Missouri was able to seal the deal at the free throw line and win the game 83-78.

Kentucky was led in scoring by Taylor Murray with 23 points and 6 rebounds followed by Maci Morris with 22 points (15 coming in the 4th quarter alone). They were able to get a great performance off the bench from Dorie Harrison who had 12 points and 4 rebounds. Missouri was led by Sophie Cunningham who had 29 points to go with 5 assists and the Tigers also got a big help from Jordan Frericks who had 15 points and 9 rebounds as well as Cierra Porter who had a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds.

The Wildcats are back in action this Sunday as they stay on the road to take on #2 ranked Mississippi State Bulldogs. Tip-off is set for 2:00pm and you can watch the game on ESPNU.
