Women’s Basketball: UK faces tough test on the road against #15 Missouri

Tonight begins a tough stretch of games for Matthew Mitchell’s basketball team as they play the first of 4 top 15 opponents to close out the regular season. The Missouri Tigers come into the game ranked 15th in the nation and are led in scoring by Sophie Cunningham with 18.9 points per game which is good enough for 5th in the conference. If Kentucky wants to have any chance at winning they’ll need to slow her down. Another key to the game will be to not allow Missouri to shoot a lot of threes as they are 2nd in the conference in three point field goal percentage with 37.9%. They will also need to crash the boards as Missouri is 5th in the conference in rebounds per game with 36.8. The Wildcats are also coming off of a heartbreaking loss to LSU this past Sunday where they trailed by as much as 15 and if you want to win on the road in the SEC you can’t get down big. Maci Morris leads the way for Kentucky with 15.6 points per game and defensively Taylor Murray will need a big game as she leads Kentucky with 2.3 steals per game. If Morris gets going offensively and Murray plays like the lockdown defender she is, then Kentucky will have a great chance to pull off the upset.

Let’s not pull any punches her, this is a huge game for Kentucky in a lot of ways. If you look a their remaining schedule they should at least go 2-4 which would give them 8th place in the conference. But if you can pull off a win tonight then you’ll gain a game on Missouri who currently sits in 7th. The difference between playing the in 8 v. 9  game and the 7 v. 10 game is huge because if you win the former you can get Mississippi State or if you win the latter you get Georgia and I’d much rather have Georgia. Kentucky has a good shot to win this game but it will take playing almost perfect to get the road win.

Prediction: Missuori 73 Kentucky 65

Tip-off is set for 9:00pm and you can catch the game on the SEC Network or the Watch ESPN App. You can also listen on 630 WLAP or ukathletics.com.
