Women’s Basketball Final: #2 Mississippi State 74 Kentucky 55

It was a valiant effort for the most part but it wasn’t enough as Kentucky (12-14 overall 4-8 in conference) fell 74-55 to #2 Mississippi State (26-0 overall and 12-0 in conference). Check out the 1st half update here. Kentucky started the half off nicely as they went on a 14 to 6 run before two quick Mississippi State baskets to lead 50-36 at the 4:59 mark. Maci Morris had a great 3rd quarter scoring 13 of her 21 points in the quarter and at one point the lead was cut to 9 with several chances to get closer but turnovers reared their ugly head and the Wildcats still trailed at the end of the 3rd quarter 56-43. In the 4th quarter foul trouble plagued the Wildcats as both Maci Morris and Taylor Murray would foul out late in the 4th quarter as Kentucky tried to rally using a half court press, but it was all for not as the Bulldogs were able to push the lead to 19 and win by the final score of 74-55.

The Wildcats were led in scoring by Maci Morris with 21 points and 4 rebounds as she was the only wildcat in double figures. Mississippi State was led by the powerful duo of Victoria Vivians who had 23 points and 7 rebounds and Teaira McCowan who had 21 points to go along with 16 rebounds. They also got help from Roshunda Johnson who only scored 2 points in the second half after scoring 15 in the first half to end up with 17 points.

Kentucky will be in action at home this Thursday against Arkansas. Tip-off is set for 7:00pm and you can watch it on the SEC Plus Network or the Watch ESPN App.
