Matthew Mitchell’s Wildcats look to get back in the win column against last year’s NCAA runner-up, the #2 Mississippi State Bulldogs. This is a game that, if Kentucky isn’t careful, could get really ugly really fast. Mississippi State comes into the game 25-0 on the year and one of the favorites to cut down the nets this April in Columbus. They are led by Victoria Vivians with 19.5 points per game and Teaira McCowan with 19 points per game, which ranks 3rd and 4th respectively, in the conference. McCowan also leads the conference in rebounds with 13.2 per game, 5th in the conference in blocks per game with 1.8 and is 2nd in the conference in field goal percentage with 61.8%. Shutting down at least one of them will go a long way in getting Kentucky the win. Mississippi State also leads the conference in points per game with 83.7 per game, whereas Kentucky only averages 68.4 per game. One thing that has plagued the Wildcats over the course of the past three games is getting off to slow starts and, if you get off to a slow start in this one, the game will be over by the end of the first quarter.
This is going to be another tough road game for Kentucky and, when you’re facing one of the top teams in the country, you have to bring your “A” game, especially on the road in a tough environment like Humphrey Coliseum.
Prediction: Mississippi State 82 Kentucky 65
Tip-off is set for 2:00 pm and you can watch the game on ESPNU, on the Watch ESPN App and you can listen to the game on 630 WLAP.
