Women’s Basketball Pre-Game Notes: Tough stretch of games continues as Kentucky travels to take on #8 South Carolina

The Kentucky women’s basketball team (13-14 overall 5-8 in conference) continues their string of tough games on the road this afternoon at the defending National Champion #8 South Carolina Gamecocks (21-5 overall 10-3 in conference). For Kentucky to win this game, it’s going to take a Herculean effort, as they’ll go up against the best duo in women’s basketball today in A’ja Wilson and Tyasha Harris. Both women get the job done in separate ways, as Wilson leads the conference in scoring with 22.5 points per game, 3rd in the conference in rebounds 11.6 per game and leads the conference in blocks with 3.5 per game. Harris leads the conference in assists, with 6.3 per game and is 3rd in the conference in steals with 2.3 per game. To have any shot of winning, they will need to contain at least one of them. They will also need to limit former Wildcat Alexis Jennings, who is shooting a blistering 60.5% from the field, which is currently 4th in the conference.

This is going to be a tough test for Kentucky, but playing these types of games only makes your team better in the long run. This is a mini rivalry within the conference, which has unfortunately been in South Carolina’s favor the past couple of seasons and it’s going to be hard for Kentucky to win and split the season series, unless they get it going early on from behind the three point line.

Prediction: South Carolina 78 Kentucky 55

Tip-off is scheduled for 3:00pm and you can watch the game on the SEC Network or on the Watch ESPN App. You can also listen on ukathletics.com or on 630 WLAP.
