Women’s Basketball: Kentucky falls to #2 Mississippi State 85-63

The Kentucky Women’s Basketball (14-16 Overall 6-10 in SEC) team looked like it was gonna pull off an upset early on, but Mississippi State (30-0 Overall 16-0 in conference) proved to be too much as they defeated Kentucky 85-63 on Senior Day in Memorial Coliseum. Much like the 1st half, Mississippi State was able to use hot shooting to help push the lead to 19 at the 7:46 before a Dorie Harrison made basket helped stop some of the bleeding. Mississippi State was able to add 2 to their 6 made threes in the 1st half to 8 for 14 from behind the arc with a 58-39 lead at the 4:32 mark. Not only did Mississippi State get it done from behind the arc but they hit shots from all over the place as they went 10 of 13 from the field in the quarter after trading baskets with Kentucky for the final 4:32 they led 68-49 at the end of the third quarter. By the 4th quarter things were pretty well wrapped up but a special moment happened at the 5:26 mark as Maci Morris hit a layup to give her her 6th consecutive 20 point game and that made the only player in the SEC to do that this season just proving how special of a player she is. After that Mississippi State pushed the lead to 22 which was the final margin as the Bulldogs complete an undefeated regular season with an 85-63 win.

Kentucky was lead in scoring by Maci Morris who had 22 points, Dorie Harrison and Amanda Paschal came of the bench to score 13 points and 11 points respectively.  The Bulldogs were led by Teaira McCowan who had a massive 20 point and 20 rebound game and they also had 4 others score double digits.

Kentucky will be back in action this Thursday against Alabama in the 2nd round of the SEC Tournament in Nashville, Tennessee. Tip-off is scheduled for 12:00pm and you can watch the game on the SEC Network or the Watch ESPN APP.
