Women’s Basketball Pre-Game Preview: Kentucky closes out regular season at home against #2 Mississippi State

Although it may not feel like it, we have come to end of the regular season and this has been a season full of bright moments, but one to forget for a plethora of reasons. But there are still games to be played and Kentucky will play host to #2 Mississippi State on Senior Day at Memorial Coliseum.  The teams met just two weeks ago and that game wasn’t even close as the Bulldogs rolled to a 74-55 victory. A 23 point performance by Victoria Vivians and 21 points from Teaira McCowan help lead the Bulldogs and it’s a tough combo to try to beat if you don’t at least shut one of them down. Mississippi State is also chasing a perfect regular season as they currently sit at 29-0 on the season and Kencutky will be getting their best shot as they are playing to keep that record in tact. As mentioned before it is Senior Day as Jessica Hardin (of Monitcello, Kentucky),  Makenzie Cann (of Lawrenceburg, Kentucky) and Alyssa Rice (of Reynoldsburg, Ohio). These ladies will be honored before tip-off so if you have no other reason to go, then go for these seniors and cheer them on to a victory.

A Kentucky win today would easily be the biggest of the season and it would be a massive momentum boost heading into the SEC Tournament this weekend. But either way this game won’t mean a lot for this weekend as Kentucky is already locked into either the 8 or 9 seed with Alabama taking the other spot. It’s going to be a physical ball game, but I think the Cats played hard enough to put a scare into Mississippi State, but in the end the Bulldogs will be too much.

Prediction: Mississippi State 75 Kentucky 60

Tip-off is scheduled for 12:00pm and you can watch the game on the ESPNU or the Watch ESPN APP. You can also listen on ukathletics.com or on 630 WLAP.
