The Kansas State Wildcats the 9 seed in the South Region:
Record- 24-11 10-8 in Big 12 play
They Defeated Creighton in the 1st round 69-59
In the 2nd round they matched up against the magical 16 seed UMBC and sent them packing 50-43.
Kansas State matched up against two teams from the SEC in the regular season
@ Vandy – They defeated Vandy in Nashville 84-79
Georgia- They defeated Georgia at their place in SEC vs Big 12 Challenge 56-51
Let’s look at their strengths and weaknesses
They are a very physical and defensive minded ball club.
67.6 ppg to opposing teams ranking 53rd in the country
30.7 rebounds per game they rank 340th in the country in that category. The Cats will have a big advantage on the glass.
72.3 points per game, They are a team who really can struggle at the offensive end.
Dean Wade: Wade missed the 1st two games in the Tourney with a foot injury he suffered before the Big 12 tourney. Wade averages 16 points and 6.3 rebounds a game for his club. He his a 6-10 big who can stretch the floor and knock down the perimeter jumper. Its still up in the air if will be ready to go for this game.
Barry Brown: Brown is the lead guard and veteran leader for the Wildcats. He is averaging 16 points and just over 3 assist per game. He is a physical guard on both ends of the ball who plays with tons of energy and passion.
Kansas State is a team who is very Similar to Georgia from the SEC. They will wanna try and slow this game down and get the Cats in the half court. I look for them to really hold the ball on the offensive end and chew some clock and really turn this into a possession kind of game. But Kentucky has shown the versatility to play any kind of style over the last few weeks.
Last Meeting with Kansas State was back in the 2014 NCAA Tourney in the Opening round. The Cats won that Match up by a score of 56-49. Kentucky made it to the National Title game that year!!
Here’s the highlights from their win over UMBC.
This Game will be played in CAT-Lanta on Thursday at 9:37 ET in Phillips Arena on CBS!!
