Sean Hjelle the Ace and workhorse for the Kentucky pitching staff got the start today and went 6 1/3 innings allowing 8 hits and 4 earned runs while striking out 7 Auburn Tigers.
Luke Heyer had a good day at the plate going 2 for 4 with a double a homer and 2 Rbi’s. Luke Becker was also 2 for 4 with a home run in the game.
Kentucky entered the 9th inning trailing the Auburn Tigers 4-2. But the Cats were able to fight and out claw the Tigers in the bottom of the 9th. The game was won on a wild pitch from the Auburn pitcher Elliott Anderson who sailed one to the back stop with the bases loaded allowing Zeke Lewis to step on home plate for the winning run.
This was a big one for the Cats who were sitting at 0-3 in the SEC after a rough weekend at Arkansas last week.
Game 2 of the Series will take place tomorrow at 12 pm at Cliff Hagan Stadium.
