We are just a week away from the start of the 2018 Kentucky football season, and today we have unfortunate news coming from the Joe Craft Football Training Center. Kentucky’s starting left tackle Landon Young hurt his knee in practice today and the injury will sideline him for the entire 2018 season.
This is Kentucky’s second major loss of the preseason, first we received horrible news about Josh Paschal’s melanoma diagnosis now this with Landon Young. This is the second consecutive season that Head Coach Mark Stoops has lost his starting left tackle in during the preseason.
As a 5 star prospect from Lexington, Kentucky, Young played in the Army All-American Bowl as a high school senior. He then was rushed into action immediately as a true freshman for UK, and as a sophomore he was give the task to replace Cole Mosier, a senior who was lost for the year in the preseason. However, unlike Mosier, Young has a redshirt year available.
Kentucky fortunately has depth at offensive tackle so even though this loss stings, hopefully we will be able to scramble together before opening day next Saturday against central Michigan!
