The Wildcats (5-0,3-0) are traveling down to College Station to take on the Aggies of Texas A&M (3-2,1-1) tomorrow and Kentucky has a chance to come out to the best start since 1950. Benny Snell has averaged 146 per game against conference opponents this season and Texas A&M has the top ranked rush defense in the SEC only allowing 80.6 rush yards a game. The story line coming in of Mark Stoops going against his former mentor Jimbo Fisher for the first time as a head coach.
Jimbo obviously respects Stoops and what he has accomplished so far at Kentucky. Eddie Gran was also at Florida State from 2010-12 serving as as associate head coach, running backs coach and special teams coordinator. I believe having two coaches that know Fisher so well can only help them prepare for what Texas A&M might throw at them.
The Texas A&M players have let the media know that they feel like it won’t be a big deal to stop Kentucky’s running attack, but, we’ve heard that stuff before.
Josh Allen won the Lott Impact Trophy Player of the Week last week and it was well deserved as he totaled 6 tackles, 4 tackles for a loss, 3 sacks, a quarterback hurry, and a forced fumble. He is 3 sacks away from tying Bud Dupree for 2nd most in school history.
Benny Snell has made his Heisman campaign something to take seriously by doing nothing but breaking records and proving people wrong. He is averaging 5.6 yards a carry right now, leads the SEC in rushing yards and rushing touchdowns, and he is 4th in the nation in rushing yards and touchdowns.
We’re right there with you Book! The focus Stoops team has had this year is amazing and if they continue to focus on winning the individual battles during the game, taking it one game at a time, and keep that chip on their shoulder that people don’t believe in them, we will all witness a magical season. My prediction is that the Cats take care of business in a rowdy environment and go in to the bye week 6-0.
