As Kentucky prepares for Vanderbilt Saturday, the biggest questions entering this game, and through the bye week, are:
– “Can Terry Wilson make throws?”
– “Will the defense load the box and give him different looks to confuse him, like he saw at Texas A&M?”
During the bye week, Kentucky worked on some new things, according to Offensive Coordinator Eddie Gran and Head Coach Mark Stoops. Kentucky is currently 12th in total offense, while Vanderbilt is ranked 8th. Vandy quarterback Kyle Shurmur is one of those quarterbacks that you don’t want to take for granted, particularly in this game. In the past, he has given us fits at times. However, Kentucky’s defense is ranked 11th in the country. Vanderbilt is ranked 98th in total defense, giving up 423 yards per game.
I believe that this match-up favors Kentucky. While I see this match-up going Kentucky’s way, at the same time you can not underestimate Vanderbilt. They took Notre Dame all the way to the 4th quarter and, if it wasn’t for a costly fumble, they would have been in prime position to win the game. Vandy also had Florida down 21-3, until a fake punt by Florida changed the momentum of the game. This game is a game that is winnable, but is also a game that you can lose. No game in the SEC is a guaranteed win, with last weekend’s LSU upset over Georgia proving that you can not take teams for granted.
This is a huge game for Kentucky this weekend. With a win, they are tied for first in SEC. Talk about a good time to be a Kentucky football fan.
