Since John Calipari took over as head coach at Kentucky the Wildcats have never lost their season opener until tonight. It was November 14th, 2008 at Rupp Arena and Billy Gillispie was the head coach. Lack of defense was a worry that night as well, as the Keydets of VMI scored 111 points led by Travis Holmes. Jodie Meeks played his part scoring 39 of Kentucky’s 103 points. That team ended up in the NIT with Billy G. getting ran out of town after the season was over and Coach Cal brought the fire back to the BBN. This Kentucky team is really good, mainly on the offensive side of the ball, so, I don’t think we will end up in the NIT again. The defense will come around in time and our young players will look to grow towards an NBA ready player. Speaking of NBA ready players, Zion Williamson is a man amongst boys out there. In my opinion, we are going to get better and there’s no reason for BBN to think this team won’t succeed at a very high level.
