First Round

Singles:

Ryo Matsumura (Kentucky) vs Alex Brown (Illinois)

Ryo with a perfect second game ties the opening set 1-1. With another clutch point Matsumura ties the set 2-2.  Matsumura drops the first set 6-3. He drops the second set 6-1 wrapping up his career in the 2019 NCAA Men’s Tennis Championship.

Ryo Matsumura finishes the 2019 season with a singles record of 16-10, he accumulated 62 wins, including wins over nationally top-ranked players Mikael Torpegaard of Ohio St and Nuno Borges of Miss St. He entered today with No. 42 placement in the ITA Division 1 Men’s Singles Rankings, where his career peaked at No. 8.

In his four years at Kentucky, Matsumura earned ITA All-America, two first-team All SEC, two second-team All-SEC, SEC Co-Freshman of the Year, ITA Ohio Valley Region Rookie of the Year, SEC Player of the Week and two SEC Freshman of the Week.
