The NBA posted their 1st and 2nd team Summer League Awards and a notable Wildcat was left off the list. Tyler Herro made highlight plays all Summer and a lot of Wildcat fans obviously wanted to see him make the list but it was not to be. I know this may be an unpopular opinion but looking strictly at the stats I can see why this happened. Let’s look at the guards that were chosen ahead of him:
Nickell Alexander-Walker – 24.3 PPG, 4.8 RPG, 6 APG and he played 30.5 Minutes per game
Kendrick Nunn – 21 PPG, 5 RPG, 6.3 APG, and 29.5 MPG
Anfernee Simons – 22 PPG, 4.3 RPG, 1.7 APG, and 26.3 MPG
Lonnie Walker – 30 PPG, 4 RPG, 1 APG, and 32.5 MPG
Tyler Herro – 19.8 PPG, 4.5 RPG, 4.3 APG, and 29.5 MPG
Overall Herro was 13th in points per game and shot 42%. I love Tyler as a player and I think he’ll be very successful in the NBA and may even make the All-Rookie team at the end of the year but I can see why he didn’t make the cut for this list.
On a side note, how good does the Pelicans look for the future. They have two players on this list and Zion with the Lakers players that were traded over. That doesn’t even mention the draft picks.
