Can Stackhouse Bring Vanderbilt Back to Relevance?

Back in April, former NBA All-Star, Jerry Stackhouse was officially announced as the new head coach for Vanderbilt. He is replacing Bryce Drew who went 40-59 in his three seasons with declining wins in each of those years.

Vanderbilt has had some success recruiting especially with Darius Garland who was recently drafted by the Cleveland Cavs with the 5th pick. Unfortunately for Vanderbilt Garland’s career was a short one due to a meniscus injury during his 5th game. They also landed Simi Shittu who was 5 star recruit but he struggled after Garland went down, only averaging 10.9 points per game and went undrafted in the NBA Draft.

Now, Jerry’s first class of freshmen will include some big names with Scotty Pippen Jr. and Kenyon Martin Jr. even though they are only ranked as three star prospects. I believe those two will be a lot better than their rankings show and I also believe that Vandy is now in a spot to start making some big moves in the SEC. It’ll be nice to have another talented team to play against in conference.
