Kentucky vs. Florida Post Game Thoughts

Well it’s another heart breaker. Kentucky outplayed Florida in the majority of the game. Kentucky beat themselves in a lot of ways. Sawyer Smith played well and had Kentucky in a position to win a game against the 9th ranked team in the nation. Smith had two meaningful interceptions and one on a hail mary. He also had a costly fumble early on that allowed Florida to jump out ahead. Smoke was amazing again and he should be our main back going forward if you ask me. Wagner was amazing again and should be targeted more in my opinion. Our defense played well for three quarters, once Franks went down with an ankle injury their back up lit us up. Kyle Trask will go down in the long list of back up quarterbacks that Kentucky couldn’t stop. Trask went 9/13 for 126 yards and rushed once for a touchdown. Chance Poore had a chance to put us up with less than a minute to play and missed the field goal attempt. It’s heartbreaking for the sold out crowd to watch that happen but we shouldn’t have been in that position in the first place. Too many penalties and mistakes on the offensive and defensive sides led to that pressure kick and the loss doesn’t fall solely on Chance.

So, moving on. We have to go to Starkville next week to take on the Mississippi State Bulldogs. Statistically, both programs are very similar. The YPG is actually identical, Miss. St. has more rushing yards per game but Kentucky matches that with their passing game. On defense both programs allow around 250 yards through the air and Kentucky has the advantage by 20 yards on the rushing yards allowed. We need Smith to tighten things up when it comes to the turnovers and we need everyone else to just keep doing their jobs. If that happens, Kentucky is where it needs to be to make this another special year. Good night y’all!
