This past Saturday night the Kentucky Wildcats took on the Dayton Flyers on home ice. This game was nothing less than exciting! Penalties all over for both teams, unfortunate for Kentucky, as they couldn’t get the offense going on the power play and come up short. Dayton squeezes one past Jeff Ison for the first goal of the game, putting the Flyers on the board. 1-0. Ison was nothing short of exciting in the first with stopping 10 of 11 shots on goal.
Mikey Liszka’s 2 minute for tripping would give Dayton the opportunity to score, and they do giving them the lead 2-0. Not that the Wildcats didn’t have a number of great looks and shots but they couldn’t get anything into the back of the net.
With a little over 6 minutes left in the 2nd Gary Eastlack finally opens up the scoring for Kentucky! Eastlack’s goal would make the score 2-1 late into the second. It didn’t take Dayton long to answer back though with a goal. The Wildcats end the 2nd period trailing 3-1
It wasn’t for lack of effort on the Cats part to rally back in the 3rd, the Flyers goalie wasn’t allowing nothing past him. That was until Matt Pakkala answered the call with his goal with a little over 7 minutes left in the final period, Kentucky still trails 3-2. But not for long as Gary Eastlack rings one in from downtown and we have got a tied game! Mikey Liszka took the role for the wildcats and scores the overtime winner! KENTUCKY WINS 4-3 over Dayton!
What a way to win at home! Kentucky is 1-1 for the season.
The Wildcats are going back on the road next weekend, where they will be attending the Virginia Invitational, but you can catch the Cats here at home on October 18th when they will take on Louisville!

#13 Gary Eastlack
