The Wildcats recently took on the Louisville Cardinals this past weekend. First game of the series took place here at the Lexington Ice Center. Everyone was asked to wear white for the white out against Louisville.
Gary Eastlack takes no time in lighting up the score board early with his shorthanded goal. The Cats and Cards are no strangers to penalties. Trading slashes, cross checking back and forth through the period. At one point the Cats were on a 5 on 3. The Wildcats go 4 on 4. Eamonn Mulkern passes a dandy to Gary Eastlack but he couldn’t connect. Back on full strength 12:30 in the 2nd period Gary Eastlack gets a breakaway chance and hits the 5 hole for a goal! Wildcats push their league to 2-0. Less than a minute later Poole would connect with Blake Riley who gets the tip in! Cats are up 3-0 at the end of the 2nd.
Going into the 3rd Mikey Liszka passes it to Jr Poole who buries it! 4-0 Wildcats continue to hold onto this shutout! Later on Gary Eastlack gets a roughing call and Burke gets a misconduct and he is ejected from the game. Also Cards head coach gets escorted to the door. Not sure what went down, but who cares because the wildcats take the game and Eric Williams keeps the shutout!! WILDCATS WIN! 4-0!
Next game of the series the Wildcats go on the road to visit the Cardinals in their own barn. The Cats open up the first with no surprise, a penalty kill. Cardinals would take full advantage of this and score early. Cardinals lead 1-0. Jeff Tyrakowski wasn’t going to have that. He answers back with a goal, tying the game. 1-1. Gary Eastlack scores right after. The Cats take the lead, but not for long. Louisville scores ties the game.
Seconds left in the 2nd and Cards bury one deep, giving them the lead. 3-2. Even with full attempts from the Wildcats, they just couldn’t seem to get anything past Louisville. Cardinals take the game. 3-2.
Kentucky Wildcats are back on the ice at home next Friday, October 25 at the Lexington Ice Center. Puck drop Midnight! Kentucky is 4-2 this season.
Let’s get that W boys!
