2nd ranked Kentucky Wildcats opens their season taking on the number 1 ranked Michigan State Spartans in the State Farms Champions Classic this Tuesday at Madison Square Garden. This match up will be the 25th meeting between the two teams as they faced each other back in 2016. Kentucky has defeated Michigan State 13 times. Michigan State has defeated Kentucky 11 times. The first game between the Wildcats and Spartans dated all the way back to February 3, 1935, where Michigan State defeated Kentucky 32-26.
The fans have gotten to see the Wildcats in exhibition to get a glimpse of the team as they prepared for the regular season by playing two in state teams, Georgetown and Kentucky State. Kentucky defeated both teams 80-53 and 83-51. Kentucky looks not to make a repeat of last season as they lost to #1 Duke 118-84.
Michigan State returns their big man Cassius Winston and nation’s best point guard. He led the Spartans to the Final Four in 2019. Michigan State will have a deep, veteran team as they had 4 returning starters, 9 other lettermen returning, and 5 newcomers.
