Tennessee comes to town this Saturday and Kentucky fans are ready to watch the Vols get another beating to a wide receiver playing quarterback. Bowden is likely to start and play the majority of the game against Tennessee. This hinges obviously on not getting down big early. If we are pushed into having to throw the ball more, I could see Sawyer Smith coming in and trying to turn things around.
Jarrett Guarantano is not a running quarterback and we should see the front line of Kentucky causing him trouble throughout the night. The Vols are allowing 2 sacks per game so far this year. Jauan Jennings is Guarantano’s main target by a lot. He has 47 catches and the receiver with the next highest amount of receptions only has 18. Jennings has 7 touchdowns which is half of all the receiving touchdowns the Vols have. On defense, Tennessee has a great pass rusher in Darrell Taylor. He has 6 sacks to date this season and Kentucky will have to account for #19. In the secondary, the Vols have done very well taking the ball away. Nigel Warrior leads the team in both interceptions with 3 and tackles, 50.
Our defense is playing very well and I don’t expect Saturday night to be much different. Calvin Taylor is coming off a two sack performance against Missouri two weeks ago and his NFL stock looks to be rising. Boogie Watson has been a force all season on bringing pressure off the edge and I predict that we will see a lot more pass rush opportunities in this game compared to the last few.
I expect this to be a fun game with Kentucky controlling most aspects of the game. Tennessee isn’t the Tennessee from past years. We have the talent edge in my opinion and we should see that pay off this week!
