13th ranked Kentucky traveled to Charlottesville to take on Virginia where Sabrina Haines scored 17 points and Rhyne Howard had a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds and lead the Wildcats with a 50-47 win over the Cavaliers to move to 4-0 in the season.
Kentucky was first to score in the first quarter as they score the first four points. Baskets by Sabrina Haines and Tatyana Wyatt give the Cats a 4-0 lead. Virginia would respond scoring the next seven points to take a 3 point lead. Kentucky snapped that streak with a layup from Blair Green and then a 3 pointer from Sabrina Hayes to give the Cats a 9-7 lead. The game would be tied at 9, 11, and 12 until Rhyne Howard hit a 3 and the Cats will take a 15-12 lead after the 1st quarter.
Kentucky started the second quarter with a pair of free throws from Nae Nae Cole, 17-12. Both Kentucky and Virginia would struggle. Cats led 19-14 but Virginia scored 6 straight to take the lead. Kentucky goes on an 8 minute scoring drought. Tatyana Wyatt snapped that with a three. Kentucky would trail 23-22 at the half.
Virginia scored first in the 3rd quarter then Kentucky would get a basket to get within one, 25-24. As they did in the second quarter both teams would seem to struggle. Cats regained the lead on a three from KeKe McKinney, 27-25. Kentucky would go on a 10-0 run after getting ignited by McKinney. Kentucky would go into the fourth with a 34-30 lead.
The Cavaliers scored first in the fourth, but the Wildcats got a three from Rhyne Howard and then a layup from Sabrina Haines to keep their lead. The Cavaliers fought back to get within two, 44-42. The Cats would not give their lead away as Haines hit 2 free throws and Howard with a layup. Cavaliers hit a 3 to cut the lead to one, 48-47. Rhyne Howard would get a pair of free throws for a 50-47 victory for Kentucky.
