Kentucky looks to bounce back from their shocking loss to Evansville last Tuesday as they take on Utah Valley at Rupp Arena. This will be the 2nd meeting between the two teams. They last played each other on November 10, 2017 and Kentucky won 73-63. Kentucky was without EJ Montgomery the past two games with an ankle injury. Ashton Hagans did not have the best game against Evansville as he only had 3 points. Coach Calipari said later that he should have sat Ashton during the game as he is dealing with a leg injury but was not specific as to what it was. Hopefully with the week break these two players can heal and be available for the game against Utah Valley and games later in the season.
Head coach Mark Madsen is rebuilding this Utah Valley team as he takes over a program that lost four starters and 10 total letterwinners from last season. He has added seven Division 1 transfers along with four junior players. Utah Valley returns 16.2 points a game from Isaiah White and senior guard T.J. Washington. Utah Valley’s transfer from Oklahoma State, Brandon Averette led the Cowboys in assists with 104. Utah Valley’s former coach was former Wildcat player Mark Pope. He went 77-56 in four seasons with the Wolverines. Mark Madseon also has a Kentucky connection, he was on the 1998 Stanford team that lost in the national semifinals =, 86-85 to eventual national champion, Kentucky.
You can watch the Wildcats and Wolverines in action Monday at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN2
