Kentucky takes on Georgia Tech at Rupp Arena before they travel out to the West to take on Utah and Ohio State in Las Vegas. Kentucky had a very dominating game against Fairleigh Dickinson where we saw sophomore, EJ Montgomery have a break out game and score 25 points in their 83-52 victory and Kentucky’s 600th win in Rupp Arena.
Kentucky and Georgia Tech will have their 72nd meeting. Their first was February 23, 1924 where Kentucky won 33-27 and their last meeting was December 9, 2000 where Georgia Tech won 86-84. This is the first meeting in the Calipari era.
Georgia Tech’s big man, Jose Alvarado had a breakout season last season for the Yellow Jackets. He led the Yellow Jackets in scoring, assists, and steals as a sophomore, he also had 36 career double-figure scoring games that included 16 last season. The Yellow Jackets has added two transfers to their veteran roster, 6-7 forward Jordan Usher from USC and 5-11 guard Bubba Parham from VMI. Both of these players are from the Atlanta area. Jordan Usher averaged more than eight points a game last year at USC, while Bubba Parham led the conference in scoring at 21.4 points per game. Georgia Tech also returns their top three scorers from last season, 6 foot junior guard Jose Alvarado, 6-9 senior center James Banks III, and 6-4 sophomore guard Michael Devoe. These three players have accounted for 48.4% of the points and 41.6% of rebounding, and 47.2% of the minutes last season. A player to watch for in the game against Kentucky is junior forward Moses Wright, he came on last for the Yellow Jacket late last season by scoring in double figures in four of his last five games, this included a career high 25 against Notre Dame in the ACC Tournament.
