With back to back losses for the Wildcats they seriously need a win. Kentucky hosts their in-state rival Louisville in the Battle of the Bluegrass, this Saturday to close out their no n- conference schedule.
This will be the 53rd meeting between Kentucky and Louisville. The first meeting between these two schools dated all the way back to February 15, 1913 in which Kentucky won 34-10 , the last meeting between the two, Kentucky also won 71-58 on December 29, 2018. Kentucky has won 36 of 52 and Louisville has won just 16 of 52.
Kentucky is coming off a 6 point loss to Ohio State and need a win. Nate Sestina had a break out game as he scored 5 three-pointers for the Cats and kept them alive when the others players couldn’t seem to score. Kentucky will be back on their home court so they will have that advantage over the Cardinals.
Louisville has had a very good season so far, they were undefeated and ranked #1 until unranked Texas Tech took them down. But they bounced back with dominating games against EKU and Miami, OH. A player to watch out for is Jordan Nwora, he returned for his junior season and averaged 17 points and 7.6 rebounds last season and has his best play came in the conference play last season. Louisville returns six players from last year’s 20 win season. Six of their seven top scorers also returned. The Cardinals ranked in the top five among the ACC in scoring, three pointers, rebounds, and free throws. The one area where the Cardinals need to improve is creating turnovers. Chris Mack added five-star small forward Samuel Williamson along with four-stars, Andre Igiehon, David Johnson, Josh Nickelberry, and Jaelyn Withers to the roster along with two grad transfers Lamarr Kimble and Keith Oddo.
The two teams clash on December 28th at 3:45 p.m. ET on CBS.
