The 13th ranked Kentucky Wildcats opened up their 2020 SEC play on the road against the 4th ranked South Carolina Gamecocks.
South Carolina gets on the board first and Kentucky can’t seem to get a basket, South Carolina to the line for a free throw to have a 3-0 lead. Rhyne Howard gets Kentucky on the board. Gamecocks go on a 6-0 run to have a 9-2 lead over the Wildcats. Gamecocks have a 22-10 lead over the Wildcats here in the last few minutes of the 1st quarter. South Carolina has a 24-12 lead after one quarter.
Kentucky starts the second quarter with a basket by Rhyne Howard, but South Carolina answers. South Carolina has their largest lead of 15 with a score of 31-16. Rhyne Howard gets a 3. Kentucky trails 35-21. South Carolina is up by 22 over Kentucky, 43-21. Gamecocks are still 20 ahead of the Wildcats, 45-25. Gamecocks go into halftime with a 49-28 lead over Kentucky.
South Carolina keeps the lead up against Kentucky as they have a 61-39 lead after 4 minutes of play in the third. Kentucky’s Patterson answers with a 3 and it’s 61-42. South Carolina is dominating Kentucky as has all game long, Gamecocks with a 70-48 lead with less than 2 minutes left in the third quarter. South Carolina finishes the third with 79-52 lead over Kentucky.
Wildcats have struggled all throughout the game but have gone on a 6-0 run still trailing 87-58. The lead is up to 30 as the Gamecocks lead Kentucky 95-65. South Carolina defeats Kentucky 99-72 for the Wildcats to start conference play with a loss.
