Rhyne Howard scores season high 37 to lead 13 Kentucky over 22 Tennessee

13th ranked Kentucky hosted the 22nd ranked Lady Vols at Memorial Coliseum in their SEC opener; they look to bounce back after their road loss to South Carolina.

Tennessee gets on the board first, and they get two free throws to have an early 4-0 lead over Kentucky. KeKe McKinney hits a 3 to get Kentucky on the board. Tennessee answers with a layup and Rhyne Howard responds back with a 3 of her own to tie it up at 6. Rhyne Howard hits another 3 for Kentucky to take the lead, 9-6. Tennessee takes the lead back but Kentucky would take it back by Ogechi Anyaligbo and Blair Green. Wildcats and Vols go back and forth near the end of the first quarter. Rhyne Howard ends it with a 3 and Kentucky has a 21-14 lead after one quarter.

Kentucky gets it started in the second quarter with a 3 from KeKe McKinney. Sabrina Haines with a 3 and Kentucky has a 27-14 lead. Tennessee hits their first 3 of the game, while Kentucky already has 7. Tennessee cuts to just one; 29-28.Lady Vols would tie up and then take the lead with free throws, 33-31. Tennessee goes into halftime with a 35-33 lead over Kentucky.

Kentucky starts the third quarter with a free throw and then a 3 from Sabrina Haines to take the lead, 37-35. Rhyne Howard hits another 3, steals the ball and she has 17 points and the Cats go on an 8-0 run to have a 42-35 lead over Tennessee. Wildcats are up 13 with back to back 3’s by Rhyne Howard, 50-37. Kentucky comes back in the third quarter to have a 51-46 lead to end the third quarter.

Rhyne Howard starts the fourth quarter with a layup and gets to go to the line hitting the free throw. Amanda Pascal gets some points for Kentucky, 60-53. Sabrina Haines with a 3 and Tennessee answers. Tennessee has it down to 9 points in the fourth, 69-60. Rhyne Howard hits her 7th 3 pointer of the game, a season high 31 points. Kentucky comes back to win 80-76 over Tennessee. Rhyne Howard ends up with a season high 37 points, 7 3 pointers, 9 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 steals, and 2 blocks.

Kentucky goes to 12-2 overall and 1-1 in the SEC. Wildcats travel to Tuscaloosa this Thursday to take on Alabama at 8 p.m. ET on SEC Network+
