Kentucky has their first SEC road test tonight as they travel to Athens to take on Georgia. Ashton Hagans has been cleared to play against the Bulldogs in his home state.
Kentucky can’t seem to buy a basket and Georgia already has a 5-0 start as freshman Anthony Edwards has all their points. Kentucky goes on a run and they have the lead, 6-5. Bulldogs are back in the lead 13-12. Bulldogs have gone on a 9-4 run, Ashton Hagans gets a jumper and a free throw for the Cats to take the lead back, 17-15 but Bulldogs take it back and it’s a you score, I score kind of game and we are tied at 21. Quickley with a 3 and we are tied at 24 but Georgia gets a bucket to go ahead 2. Bulldogs are up by 7, 35-28. Kentucky ends it with a 2 at the buzzer and Georgia has a 37-31 lead at the half.
Georgia starts the second half on free throws as Nate Sestina fouls and the lead is up to 8, 39-31. Ashton Hagans gets a basket; Georgia’s is too strong and Tyrese Maxey with the rebound for Kentucky. Edwards fouls and Maxey to the line and he gets both. Nate Sestina hits a 3 to make it just a one point game, 39-38. Anthony Edwards responds with a 3. We get another bucket and Edwards responds with another 3. Kentucky with the lead after a 3 by Immanuel Quickley, and their lead keeps growing, 63-59. Bulldogs get it within 2 and Quickley answers with a 3! Kentucky comes back in the second half to defeat Georgia 78-69 and start SEC play at 2-0.
