Kentucky is coming off a series sweeping win over Georgia. They switch their focus to the next task at hand a little break from SEC play with the Big 12/ SEC Challenge. This year Kentucky faces Texas Tech in Lubbock, TX. Hopefully our neutral site history does not repeat itself and we get a win for the SEC.
These two schools will be meeting up for the 5th time but the first time in the Big 12/ SEC Challenge. Kentucky is 4-0 against Texas Tech. They first met on December 2, 1963, Kentucky won 107-91. They last met December 17, 1994 in Cincinnati, OH and Kentucky won 83-68.
The Texas Tech Re Raiders made a 5-1 run in last year’s NCAA Tournament, making it all the way to the National Championship game but came up short against Virginia, 85-77. Texas Tech’s big man, Davide Moretti had a hand in that; he averaged 11.3 points per game in the tournament and made 9 of 18 from deep in the Final Four game. The success behind last season was their defense, as they finished first in the Big 12 in scoring defense, 59.5 ppg and defensive field goal 37 percent, their opponents shots less than 30% from the three point range. Red Raiders may have lost some scoring but the add experience with Virginia Tech grad transfer Chris Clarke and Stephan F. Austin grad transfer TJ Holyfield to their roster. A freshman to watch in this game is Jahmi’us Ramsey, a four star and highest rate player to ever sign with Texas Tech
You can watch this match-up this Saturday at 6 p.m. ET on ESPN.
