Kentucky vs. St. Johns 3/22/1985 NCAA Tournament Sweet 16

Kentucky and St. John’s went head to head with other in the 1985 NCAA Tournament on March 22 in Denver, Colorado in the West Regional Semifinal

St. John’s on the board first with a basket and they add another to lead 4-0, Kentucky is finally on the board, 4-2. Kentucky takes the lead with a basket by Winston Bennett, 6-4. Kentucky still leads 20-15 over the Redmen. Kentucky and St. John’s would be tied up before the Redmen went ahead of the Wildcats. St. Johns would go on to lead Kentucky 39-38 at the half.

Kentucky starts the second half with free throws by Winston Bennett; he makes both to give the Cats back the lead, 40-39. Redmen goes ahead, but Cats take it back with a basket. After that this is where St. John’s would maintain their lead over the Cats, 57-51. Kentucky would be close as 4, but St. Johns had an answer for them, 66-60.St. John’s defeated Kentucky 86-70 to move on to face NC State and this was Joe. B Hall’s last game as the head coach of UK as he resigned afterwards.
