Kentucky and Delaware faced each other to advance to the Final Four. This is Delaware’s first appearance in the sweet sixteen in school history, and Kentucky’s this appearance. The winner to face UConn or Maryland in the Final Four.
Kentucky on the board first with a basket after missing a 3 pointer, they get another basket as Delaware has missed all three attempts, Kentucky leads 4-0. Delaware finally on the board with a basket, but Kentucky answers with one of their own, 6-2. Delaware quickly catches up to Kentucky with the help of Elena Delle Donne’s 7 points to give them the lead over Kentucky, 9-8. Kentucky back up top with a 3 pointer by O’Neill, and another 3 pointer, Delle Donne with a basket and free throws, 14-11. Kentucky maintains their lead as they have a 12 point advantage over the Blue Hens, 29-17. Kentucky leads 41-27 at the half with a buzzer beater 3 pointer from Jennifer O’Neill for the Cats.
Kentucky with the first points to start the second half, 43-27. Delaware with a basket then free throws, and another basket cutting the deficit to just 10, 43-33. Once up by 16, the Blue Hens have now cut the Cats lead to just 5, 50-45. Delaware catches up again going on an 8-0 run to be within two, 62-60. Evans with a 3 pointer to put them up by 5, 65-60. Kentucky ends Delaware’s run in the NCAA tournament defeating them 69-62.
