Kentucky vs. Iowa State NCAA 3rd Round 3/17/2012

Number 1 seed Kentucky took on 8th seed Iowa State in the Third Round on the 2012 NCAA Tournament in Louisville, KY.

Iowa State on the board first, Kentucky answers with a 3 pointer by Marquis Teague for the Cats to lead, 3-2. Terrance Jones misses, Anthony Davis with the rebound and the basket, 5-2. Marquis Teague to Jones for another Kentucky basket. Kentucky with 9 unanswered points, Iowa St ends the score drought with a basket, but Anthony Davis answers with one of his own, 11-4. Iowa State with a 3 pointer to get within 2 of the Cats, 11-9. Both Kentucky and Iowa State with baskets, 13-11.Kentucky with back to back 3 pointers by Anthony Davis and Kyle Wiltjer, Darius Miller’s 3 pointer was changed to a FG, Kentucky leads 21-11.Cats on a 10-0 run, Iowa State finally scores a basket, 23-13. Iowa State with a basket, Kentucky with a 3 pointer, and Iowa State gets two free throws, making them both; Cats still lead 26-17. Iowa State on a 10-3 run, they only trail 26-22. Darius Miler ends the Cats scoring drought after the Cyclones run, 28-22, Anthony Davis adds to it after making both of his free throws, 30-22. Cyclones at the line for two, they make both, within just six, 30-24. Kentucky will go into halftime with a 38-27 lead over Iowa State.

Iowa State to score  first in the second half, now a 4-0 run for the Cyclones, a free throw then a basket gets them within four of the Cats, 38-34, all Iowa State in the first two minutes. Kentucky finally scores in the second half with a 3 pointer, Cyclones a 10-3 run, 41-37. Free throw for the Cats, ISU answers with a 3 pointer, within just two, 42-40, and now tied up at 42-42. Cats maintain their lead after a few baskets, 48-42. Iowa State at the line, to cut the lead once again. Kentucky at the line for two, they make both, 50-44. Kentucky with a 3 pointer, and then a basket, up by 11, 55-44. Iowa State HC with a technical, Anthony Davis at the line for two, he makes both, 57-44. Kentucky with a 3, Iowa State with an almost 6 minute scoring drought, 60-44. Kentucky now on a 20-2 run after free throws from Darius Miller, Iowa State ends their scoring drought after making two of three free throws on a technical foul on Terrance Jones, 62-46. Kentucky now with a 20 point advantage, 72-52.Iowa State tries to stay alive here in the last few minutes left but they are no match to the Cats. Kentucky defeats Iowa State 87-71 to go on to face Indiana in the Sweet 16 match up.
